Self-Management Skills–I

Self-management helps a learner recognise personal strengths, set goals, organise time, manage stress and maintain a healthy, professional routine.

Core ideas

1. Understand the idea

Self-awareness means recognising strengths, areas for growth, interests and feelings.

2. Key knowledge

A specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound goal is easier to plan and review.

3. Apply it

Time management uses priorities, realistic schedules, small steps and breaks.

4. Remember the process

Stress can be managed through preparation, sleep, exercise, breathing, asking for help and breaking a task into parts.

5. Use it responsibly

Personal hygiene, appropriate grooming and positive habits support well-being and readiness to learn.

Worked scenario

Instead of “I will study more,” set “I will revise 20 vocabulary words from 5:00 to 5:25 p.m. on Monday, then test myself.” Review what worked afterward.

Practice questions with answers

1. Why should a goal be specific?
A specific goal makes the required action clear, so progress can be measured and the next step chosen.
2. Name two healthy ways to manage stress.
Plan the task in smaller steps and take a short movement or breathing break; asking a trusted person for support is also useful.

Practical evidence

Keep a small practical record: task, tool, steps, result and one learning. For technical units, repeat the operation with a new file or data set so you can explain what changes and what stays the same.
