Lab Exercises and Practical File

Prepare the practical work listed in CBSE Computer Applications: secure browser settings, file navigation, documents, spreadsheets, charts, presentations, report file, viva and project.

Syllabus concepts

File and browser practice

Navigate folders using mouse and keyboard. Recognise a secure browser connection and inspect the address before entering personal information.

Word-processing tasks

Create a letter, report, greeting card and a short illustrated document explaining a topic from another subject. Prepare one document in an Indian language other than English using an appropriate font/input method.

Spreadsheet tasks

Enter a small, clearly labelled data table. Use SUM, AVERAGE, MAX and MIN. Create line, bar, area and pie charts with titles and readable labels.

Presentation tasks

Create and save a slide deck, use consistent layouts, add images, animate selected text or pictures, and add sound effects only where useful. Rehearse timings and test the slideshow.

Assessment evidence

The syllabus includes a lab test across word processing, spreadsheets and presentations, a report file with viva, and a project using learned concepts. Keep work organised and be ready to explain choices.

Worked example

Mini-project: “Class reading survey.” Collect a small class sample without private identifiers, total responses in a spreadsheet, calculate an average where appropriate, make a bar chart, write a one-page summary and present the key finding. Cite the source and avoid unsupported conclusions.

Practice questions with answers

1. What should be checked before printing a report?
Open print preview; check margins, page breaks, spelling, page numbers and whether the intended pages are selected.
2. What makes a chart useful?

3. What should a project viva answer explain?
The task goal, data or materials used, steps followed, tool choices, result, limitations and one improvement.

Practical task and self-check
